Associated Collegiate Press 2015

I designed this full page cover for the paper’s Welcome Freshmen special issue in 2014. I wanted to deviate from past years’ covers, where this cover traditionally was a round-up of highlighted articles in the past year, and just go full on “fun” for the new freshmen on campus.

All graphics were designed from scratch in Illustrator, and was done in 2 days, which was 1 more day we usually had for front page covers.

Associated Collegiate Press 2015

This front page was done to commemorate the 13thanniversary of 9/11. The cover story features an exclusive interview with alumni who were involved in the redevelopment of the World Trade Center. Working with this special article and being so close to New York City, it was quite surreal to design this cover. I wanted to commemorate 9/11 and showcase the optimistic future of the area using the renderings of the skyscrapers to consume the space.

Gold Circle Award – Columbia Scholastic Press Association 2014

When I was a student at Penn, there was an unfortunate period of numerous student deaths on campus. It was especially difficult to cover this topic as a fellow student, but from a design perspective we needed to make sure we handled the topic with care so as not to sensationalize the issue. For this front page, the staff did not have any imagery, nor did we feel like we should put images on such a serious cover. So, I had to design a front page with only text. I utilized design foundations, like symmetry, balance, and white space to create a page that not only organizes information in a judicious way, but also to try to reflect the overall sentiment of the issues covered.
